DESCRIPTION:On April 10\, the Monterey Public Library will host the second annual local History Slam\, an all-day immersion in the richly layered history of the Monterey Peninsula. Co-sponsored by the Western Flyer Foundation\, the Cannery Row Company\, and the Cannery Row Foundation\, the event features 10-15 minute talks on the rich\, hidden histories of Monterey. Hear about the porthole in Robinson Jeffers' Hawk Tower\; Joseph Campbell's connection to Monterey and Star Wars. Learn more about Ed Ricketts\, the ecology of Monterey Bay\, local artists--as well as fresh perspectives on Flora Woods\, the legendary Cannery Row Madame\; the Chinese village at Point Alones\; local Japanese American flower growers\; and Tiburcio Vasquez: The Musical! And MUCH MORE! The event is held on Zoom from 10 am - 4 pm. A schedule of the day's presentations will be posted on the library website.
