About Us

The Dunes is a 330-acre master planned community, within a larger 420-acre Specific Plan area, known as University Villages, located in the former Fort Ord Army Base within the City. The Dunes forms the Southern portion of City, and is bounded by Highway 1 on the west, California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB) to the South, and links to the rest of the City to the North and East. The Dunes is planned to provide 1,237 residences (108 apartments and 1,129 for sale units, of which 248 units are designated as affordable units, and 62 as work-force homes); 1,510,000 square feet of office, retail, and multi-uses (including 83 mixed use town homes); 500 hotel rooms; 81 acres of public facilities and backbone roadways; and 42-acres of parks/open space and transit esplanade/multi-purpose corridor. In 2010, the Dunes project was awarded the prestigious California Sustainable Communities award, one of 13 in the state, and one of 5 to receive grant funding as part of this award.
