Description
On April 10, the Monterey Public Library will host the second annual local History Slam, an all-day immersion in the richly layered history of the Monterey Peninsula. Co-sponsored by the Western Flyer Foundation, the Cannery Row Company, and the Cannery Row Foundation, the event features 10-15 minute talks on the rich, hidden histories of Monterey. Hear about the porthole in Robinson Jeffers’ Hawk Tower; Joseph Campbell’s connection to Monterey and Star Wars. Learn more about Ed Ricketts, the ecology of Monterey Bay, local artists--as well as fresh perspectives on Flora Woods, the legendary Cannery Row Madame; the Chinese village at Point Alones; local Japanese American flower growers; and Tiburcio Vasquez: The Musical! And MUCH MORE! The event is held on Zoom from 10 am - 4 pm. A schedule of the day's presentations will be posted on the library website. Please register in advance (at least one hour prior) at https://montereypl.libcal.com/event/7527006 For questions, please contact the Monterey Public Library at 831-646-3933 or refdesk@monterey.org
