KSBW 8 Names Gina De Vecchio Chief Meteorologist
Salinas, CA – May 8, 2025 – KSBW Weather Meteorologist Gina De Vecchio has been promoted to Chief Meteorologist, effective immediately, it was announced by Laura Williamson, KSBW 8 President and General Manager, and Cassady Velasco, KSBW Action News 8 News Director.
De Vecchio will lead KSBW 8’s talented team of meteorologists and forecasters and oversee the station’s weather coverage. She will continue reporting the Central Coast’s weather weeknights at 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00 PM alongside news anchors Dan Green, Erin Clark, and Sports Director Jake Flores.
“Gina is an outstanding meteorologist who has a proven track record for excellence in weather reporting,” said Williamson. “Over the course of her career, Gina has helped keep viewers safe while forecasting some of the most significant storms on the Central Coast. She is dedicated to serving our community by providing the most accurate weather information and perfectly suited for her new leadership position.”
There’s no question Gina is the right person to lead our weather team,” said Velasco. “She knows how to speak to viewers across all generations and all platforms, whether on TV, on social media or on the web. No one is better suited to provide our communities with the weather information they need to stay safe.”
De Vecchio, an atmospheric science expert with more than 15 years of experience forecasting weather throughout the country, has been serving the Central Coast on the KSBW Weather team since 2017. Since joining KSBW 8, she has forecasted numerous major weather events including the three-year drought beginning in 2019 that led to water restrictions and reduced crop production, the widespread thunderstorms in 2020 that produced lightning and started hundreds of fires throughout California resulting in the devastating CZU Complex fire, and the series of atmospheric rivers in 2023 that brought widespread, severe and life-threatening flooding to the Central Coast.
De Vecchio grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from San Jose State University. She is a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and has been awarded the AMS Seal of Approval for Television.
